In 50 B.C. lived and worked 100,000 people on a hill in the Morvan, the oppidum of Bibracte. Now called the Mont Beuvray, 25 km west of Autun. Here lived the most important Celtic tribe and here was chosen as leader Vercingetorix and later by Julius Caesar defeated at Aleisia, 120 km away. Here Caesar also wrote his famous book of the Gauls.
